Fun Things
A collection of music, books, and whatever else I feel like sharing.
Some literature
Alchemy
Rory Sutherland
A great read about why the best solutions are often not the logical ones.
A favourite quote:
“The trouble with market research is that people don't think what they feel, they don't say what they think, and they don't do what they say.”
Unreasonable Hospitality
- Will Guidara
A story of how a New York restaurant became the best in the world by going above and beyond for their people (patrons, and staff). A lot of great takeaways here that can be applied to any business.
A favourite quote:
“People will forget what you do; they'll forget what you said. But they'll never forget how you made them feel.”
A few playlists
Humble Bob
Electronic toe tappers that aren’t too overbearing. My go-to when I need to lock in to work.
Steezy Geezers
100 Bangers from a time gone by.
The Rotation (Jan-Feb ‘26)
A bi-monthly curation of tunes I’ve been enjoying. There’s usually a bit of range. You’ve been warned..
A song
Love Takes Miles - Cameron Winter
A modern classic. Cameron’s music is truly unique - very raw and loose, but amazing musicality and vocals. I’m a big fan.
An album
Say I Am You - The Weepies
Simple catchy folk tunes. A lovely listen.
A hot tip
I’m always looking for new tunes, and am often not the biggest fan of Spotify’s recommendations. I’ve recently learned that Spotify lets you export your entire streaming history. You can then upload these files to AI and use it to make personalised recommendations based on years of listening data.
Go to your Spotify account's Privacy page and request your "Extended streaming history." Spotify will email you a set of JSON files (it can take a few days). Then upload those files to an AI (I like Claude) and ask it to analyse your taste and suggest new music.
You’ve now got a great resource that you can chat with whenever you want to discover something new.
Some examples of questions I’ve asked:
What are some albums released in 2026 that you think I’d be into based on my history?
Can you suggest some modern artists that will appeal to my pop punk tastes?
What’s a mellow foreign language album I can chuck on while I cook dinner tonight? Similar to the bossa nova stuff I’ve been jamming
